Unlocking the secrets of effective writing
Discover why writing can be one of the most cognitively demanding tasks we undertake and learn strategies to help pupils overcome these challenges. We will delve into the complexities of transcription and composition and uncover why some children might struggle with writing. As cognitive scientist and writer Daniel T. Willingham notes, "Writing is a demanding task because it involves a range of complex skills that are not naturally intuitive."
This series explores the underlying skills required for successful writing and addresses how expectations can sometimes outpace skill development, leading to frustration and a lack of motivation. Join us to understand the intricate nature of writing and equip yourself with practical strategies to make this vital skill more accessible and enjoyable for learners of all ages.
This series draws on the best available research-evidence and shares practical ideas, resources and strategies to exemplify how evidence can be actioned in the classroom.
